The Call

Garrett received his call on April 1.  It came in the mail while he was at work and so we sent him a picture of it.  We were all very excited to get that big white envelope.

It was conference Saturday so we decided to have him open the call right after priesthood. Garrett had to work during priesthood but Cyrus said that Elder Bednar gave an amazing talk on Missions and receiving the call.  We had many people show up to our home all very anxious to see Garrett open his call.  Everyone came and made their guesses.  I was hoping for Japan or Argentina.  Guesses were all over the map! It was finally time to open the call.  I was in charge of Facebook live (which I totally failed at the first few minutes.  After many attempts of people telling me to turn the phone... I finally got it done!)  People joined us from all over.  There is just something very exciting about a young man opening his call.  He proceeded to open it and read that he was called to serve as a mission are for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was assigned to labor in the Osorno, Chile Mission.  He was to report to the Mexico City MTC (CCM) on July 25, 2017.  We were all cheering for joy studying the skinny country of Chile.  My dad was thrilled.  He worked very closely with the Chilean people when we lived in Argentina.  He knows how humble and teachable they truly are. Garrett later informed me that he was wanting to go to Europe where his Dad served but the day his call came and as soon as he looked at the white envelope he knew he would be happy to serve wherever the Lord needed him.  And as he read "Osorno, Chile" he was thrilled.  He said he should have known it was going to be Latin America because thats where Mickelsen's tend to serve.
Unfortunately he had to finish up High School before he could leave.  Once he had his call he was ready to go!
Those 3 1/2 months seemed to drag on but now that he's gone I realize how fast they really went by.
